This isn't the first time Alabama sheriffs have come under fire for their use of leftover jail food fund money. http://www.al.com/news/huntsville/index.ssf/2017/04/inmate_sheriff_food_alabama.html … via @aldotcom

Why in the hell would there be left over money for food?? Does that money not come from tax payers? So why would it go to the sheriff?

Some places, inmates can buy supplemental food w inflated prices via "commissary." Esp. younger men get quite hungry, even when the jail is meeting "adequate" food requirements -- if you've ever had a teen boy, u know. Profit goes into a "fund." I'm guessing that's the $.

          Replying to @kathylamotte @MarshallProj and

The article was referring to the budget for food purchased for all inmates for the year. Stating that any unused funds go to the sheriff, which in reality belongs to taxpayers. If anything it should be used somewhere in the jail or held over for the following yr.

What makes them think they deserve the money that should have been used to feed the prisoners. Has anyone bothered to investigate how they are being fed.

There shouldn't be any "left over" funds for food. Same thing done to Native Americans forced to stay on reservations with little food.

Hawaii did this too. The warden and jailers used duds to buy steak for themselves while prisoners were given PB&J sandwiches

What the hell is going on with Alabama's sheriffs? Theft of taxpayer money on a massive scale, funds allocated to feed prisoners used by a sheriff to purchase a $740K beach house, which is only ONE of his several properties! They are thieves & belong in prison! @realDonaldTrump
