Enough is enough. The #opioidepidemic has been destroying lives in Tennessee and across the country for years. Today I questioned the CEOs of our nation’s largest opioid distributors about their role in the crisis.pic.twitter.com/5pCa5mzzh0

HYPOCRITE. In 2016 you voted to defang the DEA of its best weapon vs. large drug distribution companies suspected of flooding prescription drugs into our communities. You took money from Big Pharma for that vote.

I disagree. Cars are not addictive. It is analogous to mfgs of Jack Daniels sending enough to one town to rot every liver in the town 5 times. The mfgs know where their output is being shipped. Do others share blame, of course. But they are hardly innocent.

People have a duty to be responsible. The manufacturers are capitalists. It’s the duty of physicians, secondarily, and individuals, primarily, to use opioids responsibly-as with autos. Addiction is placing blame and a cop out.

By your logic, and @MarshaBlackburn, I should blame tobacco manufacturers for my smoking addiction. It’s just not so. There isn’t a soul alive that doesn’t know the dangers of opioids, unless he has half of a brain.

@MarshaBlackburn is grandstanding because it’s popular right now. If they want to stem opioid abuse, they’ll stop all of the illegal drugs coming out of Mexico and China.

I can accept that. BUT I promise you that the litigation against Big Pharma will dwarf the tobacco litigation. The evidence is even worse and the direct damage exponentially greater.
