I'm celebrating my 9th landiversary on Mars. In 2012, I hit the ground running. I've traveled a total of 16.3 mi (26.3 km), climbed 1,509 ft (460 m) in elevation & collected 32 drilled samples. Time flies when you’re doing science. Thanks for riding along!

I used my CheMin instrument in a clay-rich area of Gale Crater to study mineral records with my team. The minerals can tell us about Mars’ ancient environment. It seems past super-salty water may have changed the history of these layers below the surface.

🎶 I’d like to be in a galaxy, in a planet’s Starr-filled garden out in space 🎶 From Mars all the way back to Earth, here’s to a birthday full of for the one and only !

Is there methane on Mars? My Tunable Laser Spectrometer detected concentrations here in Gale Crater at night, but during the day other instruments can’t seem to find any traces. Some members of my team think levels may vary throughout a sol.

I wandered lonely as a cloud on Mars... These are noctilucent or "night shining" clouds. They're high in the atmosphere and likely made of dry ice. Their crystals catch the fading light of the Sun, causing them to glow against the darkening sky. (4/4)

SWEET MOTHER OF PEARL LOOK AT THESE MARTIAN CLOUDS. No, seriously. These iridescent wisps are called "mother of pearl" clouds. The shimmery pastels result when the particles in the cloud are all nearly identical in size. (3/4)

Heading into the weekend like a cloud on Mars. This GIF shows clouds drifting over Mount Sharp. Each frame was stitched together from six individual images. (2/4)

Sometimes you just need to stop and watch the clouds roll by... on Mars. Cloudy days are rare here because the atmosphere is so thin and dry, but I've been keeping my cameras peeled and wanted to share some recent pictures with you. (1/4)

Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to work I go. I’m going to explore new Martian terrain and search for salt minerals that could provide more clues to this Red Planet I call home.

Salty puzzle piece.🧂 has found that organic salts are likely present on Mars & I may be able to detect them. They're the chemical remnants of organic compounds that may provide important clues to the planet’s carbon cycle and potential for past life.

Congratulations to CNSA’s team for the successful landing of China’s first Mars exploration rover, ! Together with the global science community, I look forward to the important contributions this mission will make to humanity’s understanding of the Red Planet.

Spin me right round! I took this 360º panorama with my Mastcam atop “Mont Mercou,” a rock formation overlooking Gale Crater. It's made from 132 images of the terrain (rather than my hardware or the sky). Enjoy the view on desktop or via the app:

🎵 And I think to myself, what a wonderful world 🎵 The Pale Blue Dot & Moon were shining like evening stars as I gazed up into the Martian sky & captured this image on Jan. 31, 2014. Even though I’m on Mars, we’re all . Happy !

Stop, drill time.🦾 This is my 31st drill hole. They've named it "Bardou." You can spot the .6 inch diameter hole in this image I took using my left Navcam. I'll be studying the mineralogy and chemistry of the sample using my SAM & CheMin instruments.

Your memory lives on. We’ve named a Martian hill in honor of an award-winning mission astrobiologist who recently passed away. “Rafael Navarro Mountain” stretches 450ft (120 meters) & sits at a geological “gateway” to clay-rich & sulfate-rich regions.

Wish you were here! This selfie was taken in front of “Mont Mercou,” a rock formation that’s 20ft (6m) tall. It's made up of 60 images from my MAHLI camera and 11 images from my Mastcam. Look close enough to spot a new drill hole – my 30th sample to date.

Quick! Stop scrolling. What you see here aren’t just any clouds, they’re Martian clouds. Take a moment out of your day to look at the sky of another world. 📸 taken by my right Navigation Camera.

Are you as filled with antici...pation as I am for to land on Mars? The final seven minutes of her may look a lot like mine, but I assure you, what she's about to do is much, much harder. See for yourself.

This , I'm singing Auld Lang Syne for recent science targets with "Scottish" names. "French" sites are keeping me très occupée, and will for many sols to come. My team nicknames all the spots I visit, and each quadrant has a different theme. Blog:
