It should be easy to know when you’ve found the official YouTube channel of a creator, artist, brand, or public figure. So in late October, we’re updating what it means for channels to be “Verified” w/ new eligibility criteria & a new look. Details → https://yt.be/help/3QfB pic.twitter.com/JXOvMbkbns

Thanks for the feedback – the change isn’t meant to make it harder to get a badge. The old system only verified >100k subs, but not proof of authenticity. This update improves that. Channels that need clear proof of authenticity/meet the criteria, can still get verification.

If it makes it easier for people <100k subs to get verified, GREAT! Communicate that better! But I've seen creators that have been on YouTube for 10+ years get a letter saying they're losing verification. How much more authenticity can you require of them? This is their home!

You are just opening the door for imposters to run rampant and shutting down all but the largest channels to have any way to verify themselves as authentic when commenting on other channels or appearing in searches. This just makes no sense. Very bad decision, YouTube.
-
Also, for the record, I still have my verified mark. Mine didn’t get removed and it sounds like I’ll be keeping it. But I’m still very appalled for those that did have theirs taken away. It’s absolutely inexcusable to just take it away like that.

"Is this a popular channel that has a very similar name to many other channels?" So...accounts that are parodied or anything similar will be affected by this. Yeah, no. Lucky me for knowing I'd never be verified, before the change, because I'm trash. XD

Kindve the mindset I’m sitting on with all this lol I’m not good enough to get verified so it doesn’t bother me as much as it ought to.

It literally doesn't; it exists solely for the benefit of mainstream celebrities, corporate brands, and YouTubers of the type that the site itself likes to promote (say, the Paul brothers).
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

So what does that even mean for smaller youtubers like myself ?
-
If you are verified chances are you will be unverified until you meet a certain criteria.
