Also, I totally slept through the PTR build and am still groggy as hell so excuse the bad wording/typos. Not looking into the specifics of the feature either as thats too public dataminey (and I'm hungry/still sleepy). Let me know if any of you use this feature, though!

Definitely not expecting the data to be very readable (or at all) with it data likely being encrypted. Curious how it looks though, so secretly hoping it's not encrypted and they just sign it (serverside) instead which will still prevent manipulation of it. We'll see very soon!

Strings in the new PTR build mentioning Chinese realms are unavailable after the 23rd and implying 10.0.5 is releasing before that (to give players some time to download the "progression data"). Crap situation for Chinese players either way, but good that they're offering this.

This is interesting, anyone playing on WoW China? Curious to see what that data ends up looking like. (WoW China) (...) working hard to develop a feature that will allow you to save your characters, items, and progress to your personal devices (...). Via wowhead.com/news/wow-china

I think AI is cool, but do have my worries when it comes to image generation and training things based on not-public domain imagery, e.g. stable diffusion is trained on web-scraped images. Hopefully something that's fixed in the future as it just irks me the wrong way currently.

I should've seen this one coming but didn't expect it for some reason. Pretty wild to think Google-fu is going to turn into Prompt-fu (which is much closer to plain language) as well as it just answering stuff instead of having to look for good results.

An underrated way to attract great engineers to your company (drumroll) Have a great engineering blog. This means ENGINEERS write the blog, not content writers. And they give the "real deal" about challenges, learnings, failures. So few companies do this. A few that do:

Extremely clear weather but very high winds make sure the smoke doesnt stick around like previous years giving a view all across the horizon waaaaay into the distance. So pretty! (Loud noises, obviously)

Happy new year from GMT+1! So far so good.

This isn't the best time of year for everyone, so regardless of how you're spending it; each one of you deserves happy holidays and a stellar 2023. I hope you can be yourself or become the person you want to be. Don't care what others think, live your life as you please. ❤️ 🖖

For the 89% of the people who voted yes on this poll, I said I would deliver this before the end of the year and as it is now December 31, this is what I have so far. I might add more after more thinking, but I think this covers most of the reasoning. docs.google.com/document/d/1sO

Implave's video made me reflect on shelving @WoWdotTools/public datamining. Nothing has changed as the negatives still outweigh the positives but I have coherent enough thoughts now to write a few pages about it. Am doing this for myself, but would you care/read if I posted it?

I had very low expectations going into #StarTrekProdigy with it being animated/Nickelodeon but I can happily say that it was actually a pretty fun watch that gets to the core of what Star Trek is. Just wish it had a higher budget as some bits looked very janky. Bring on season 2!

Didn't game on Steam a whole ton this year but when I did it was mostly on my Deck, so this seems pretty accurate (Steam obviously does not include WoW).

I thought maybe, just maybe, they'll surprise drop a Christmas special, but then I remembered it is the BBC and there would be riots in the streets if the scheduling isn't what it's announced to be. Soooo... trailer?

And there's the kill by Liquid! Gz! Having watched both raid lead streams throughout being stuck in bed/on the couch, Echo performed the best and Liquid had the best vibes throughout. All in all a great race, looking forward to the next race (with hopefully less hotfixing).

As Max (Liquid) is saying right now, there's no right time for Blizz to push nerfs that doesn't screw someone over. He said losing isn't fun and it sucks, but also to not be cringe/toxic about it (which obviously is already happening).

Keep in mind the times on WoW.tools are not when the hotfix was pushed but when it was first seen by someone uploading caches. They were active for the kill (Echo said this themselves). Max posted the notes (which I assume are from Blizz) for the nerfs in his chat:

I can only speculate at what this means based on limited knowledge and seeing number go down. It's partial information, missing context or just super late. Only way to confirm is a shorter line of comms from Blizz (which RWF guilds might already have), but the public doesn't.

Example, this hotfix hit somewhere between 4 hours and 30 minutes ago. Various Raszageth related hotfixes including what at a glance appears to be a 50% nerf of the shield on Mythic. No clue though, don't have enough info to provide a complete picture. 🤷 wow.tools/dbc/hotfixes.p

Still think there would be added value, especially during RWF, to more transparency around hotfixes Blizz is doing, either by Blizz themselves or by the community datamining them. A lot of the reporting around hotfixes is regularly wrong/partial/leaving out context/very late.

I... I can't believe it. An actual roadmap! This is exactly what I asked for in one of the council threads, but color me surprised to actually see them do it.

Your adventures in #Dragonflight are just beginning! With six updates planned for 2023, we're looking to deliver more content to players more often. EP @TheWindstalker on the road ahead: blizz.ly/3WeBHPZ
A roadmap graphic, outlining the planned content releases for 2023 with banners representing each of the six planned updates. The first two banners describe minor patches 10.0.5 and 10.0.7 with a list of features. The next banner describes details for Season 2 coming with patch 10.1. The fourth and fifth banners describe minor patches 10.1.5 and 10.1.7. The final banner describes patch 10.2 and Season 3. Each banner has bullets of planned features and text at the bottom reads “Content and timing subject to change.”

That includes Blizzard's hotfix notes fwiw, not talking about just fansites. I don't see it happening as it requires knowledge about all parts of the game as well as having multiple of those people to cover all the times hotfixes are pushed at. Probably not worth it moneywise. :(

Today is 's 10th birthday! 🎉 is an absolute powerhouse for keeping it going this long AND still actively working on it, especially without monetization.👏 (I was going to tweet this at exactly 10:10PM but still flu-ridden so best do it while I'm awake.)

One of the many examples why I think ads/ad companies are the scum of the earth. AdMaven have repeatedly ignored requests from both and I to stop mailing us for 5 years now. Including ignoring us calling upon GDPR to remove our contact info. , kindly fuck off.

I've posted the things I wanted to post and I hope those threads reached the right people, whether or not any of it will be acted upon. With 10.0, Blizz's apparent philosophy change and the live chats I am hopeful for the future of the council, even though it gets a lot of flack.

While we're on the topic of the WoW Community Council, as I crossed a year of being on it last week (the initially planned duration) and as I've (often) mentioned am stepping back from the subjects I joined the council to post about, I've asked to be removed going into 2023.

I'm glad that brought up (55:08) the recent situation with players at early high renown getting ahead storywise. From Steve's response, it appears the dirt/key grind was unintended and that they're still evaluating how to improve unlocks in the future. Good news!
