I was just at a conference where we talked about the GigEconomy and how our policies need to address this shift in our economy. Thoughtfulness and forward thinking is not dead! Thank you! Now let’s get smart about

“opt” ....yeah right. Political leadership has failed this generation, who are stuck with shitty options and pointless degrees.

Having dabbled in this for six months, we don’t need a “social safety net”. We are hard working, motivated individuals. What we need is a fair single self-employment tax code.

Agreed. The Future of Work 2020 white paper looks pretty scary. 50% of the workforce will be contract workers with no benefits.

I'm not even a millennial, but I've found freelancing to be the way to go for me. It has its downsides, but the flexibility and the ability to create my own work structure far outweigh the negatives.

And we're supposed to trust you to do that after screwing the American people on banking regulations?

Thank you, Senator Warner. Health care affordability for this group (of which I’m included - a Gen X biz owner) *desperately* needs to be included in the discussion. 2019 portends some scary stuff in that area as Obamacare is slowly getting dismantled and uncertainty rises.

Thanks for paying attention to this Senator. The article misses that many aren't opting for freelance/contract work, other options are just dwindling. Many tech co's hire most new employees as contractors, a "try before you buy" arrangement co's receive most of the benefit from.

Instead of looking for ways the federal government can regulate, add bureaucracy, and costs to individual workers, see what you can do to get government out of the way. Loosen insurance and medical care regulations. Open up 401k, IRA, HSA, FSA...regs so gig-ers can use them.

This is great news, however, an important, and often missing piece, of a successful freelancer is the availability of quality healthcare that is affordable!

In layman's terms, regulate and tax it, isn't that right, lefties?
