Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Today on Yom HaShoah, this should be a wake-up call. We must remember the unspeakable tragedy of the Holocaust, not only to commemorate those who were murdered but also to ensure these atrocities are never repeated.https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/984401765159374850 …

The Holocaust and the events leading up to WWII should receive much more emphasis in the public schools. We are seeing similar signs of "strongmen" seizing power in formerly democratic nation states across the globe.

Yeah, I didn't want to come right out and say that, but yeah. It is time to find out who are the patriots in our government and who just want power and money. History will be watching and names will be recorded in the history books.

You mean the statues erected during the height of Jim Crow that were put up to glorify the men who sought to preserve slavery?

Funny the dems erected these statues passed jim crow laws and supported seg. When the vote came to give african americans the vote republicans passed while no dems voted yes.

In case you didn’t notice, the political poles reverved in the 60s. Not that we don’t still have a long way to go, but the party of overt racism is now the Republicans. Just check David Duke’s most recent political affiliation.

I think we do a disservice to the Holocaust by considering it part of a war we fought overseas. So many of the souls lost were the forefathers and family members of our friends, neighbors, etc. right here at home. Wishing them all peace and comfort.

The atrocities continue to be repeated in North Korea, Syria and Iran to say the least. Senator, how many genocides have we turned a blind eye since the Holocaust? "....ensure these atrocities are never repeated."

A good book to read (it's very short) is "On Tyranny" by Timothy Snyder. Lessons well worth remembering.
