The Parkland survivors need our thoughts and prayers because they’ve been through hell, but more than that, they deserve action and change.

I’m encouraged by the President’s call to strengthen existing background checks and ban bump-stocks. Whatever you think of the President, that’s a lot more than most politicians have been willing to say on the matter.

Unfortunately, this wouldn’t be the first time the President tweeted a good game but failed to deliver. The President needs to either lead or put down the phone.

Words need to be followed up with action, and those modest steps alone aren't an adequate response to this epidemic of gun violence.

The Parkland students are making a difference. The millions of Americans who refuse to accept 35,000+ gun deaths per year as normal are making a difference.

Just yesterday a new poll showed two-thirds of Americans wants stronger gun safety laws – the highest level ever recorded by Quinnipiac University since it started polling the issue after Sandy Hook. There’s no excuse for Congress not to act.

@MarkWarner - I’m a supporter, but can you please explain what’s changed between now and 2013 when you voted against the semi automatic ban? These kids are frustrated with politicians being politicians. Be transparent, be honest and be real.https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2013/04/17/what-happened-with-gun-amendments-today-everything-failed/?utm_term=.e65735a85497 … - 1 more reply

Their school failed them by not having armed guards and more importantly by not teaching them the importance of our Constitution including the purpose of the 2nd amendment....the same Constitution, I must remind you, that you vowed to defend and uphold!
-
This is a lie. They had armed guards. They know the constitution, better than you apparently. Regulating firearms is both constitutional, and prudent in the face of mass death.

These kids are honestly the first glimmer of hope for the future I’ve had in a LONG time. They are inspiring, and I hope it’s contagious.

I will back them and defend their right to speak to my last breath.
