Retrocession with Maryland (like Alexandria and Arlington with Virginia) makes more sense. Making this mid-sized city into a state is insane.

I’m sorry but DC Statehood would violate the USConstitution and violate legal precedent on how to dispose of federal land no longer wanted/need for the Nation’s Capital.

The statehood commission's proposal, approved by the citizens of Washington, DC, maintains a neutral Federal City in accordance with Constitutional requirements. The number of residents of Federal City would be nearly 0. Also, most of Washington DC is not federal land.
