This is a big deal. Google's cover-up of its privacy breach is the company's latest attempt to evade scrutiny – both of its business practices and its treatment of user data.https://twitter.com/dmac1/status/1049348056540499968 …

Google discovered a software bug that exposed private data on hundreds of thousands of users, and decided not to inform the public. Here’s our story: https://on.wsj.com/2ON4dsq  Several questions are still unanswered...

I was frustrated that Google refused to send senior executives to testify before the Intel Committee last month, but to learn that the company was sitting on news of a potential breach affecting hundreds of thousands of users at the time is pretty outrageous.

Rather than keeping the public and Congress in the dark about issues like this, Google should work with Congress to develop some smart, reasonable guardrails that protect Americans and their data.

In fact, that's exactly what I told @Jack and @SherylSandberg at our hearing last month. Had Google decided to show up, the company would have had a seat at the table for that important conversation.

There are serious questions about whether the current enforcement model is up to the task of consumer protection in this space. It’s clear that Congress needs to step in.

Americans are tired of Congress treating rogue tech companies with kid gloves. They have proven time and time again they need to be regulated. #GlovesOff

Data rights law. Who owns what and how they can use it? Too much has been taken from individuals by corporations.

Before we do that Senator, lets define 'consumer protection'. Allowing giant social media & ENG entities shadowband/content censor/delete based on their political bias (liberal democrat) PLUS control competitors in an open market is form of racketeering. yes?
