    Mark Warner Retweeted POLITICO

We remain woefully underprepared to secure the upcoming elections, and an executive order is simply no substitute for congressional action, such as the strong measures included in the bipartisan DETER Act.https://twitter.com/politico/status/1039923573723418624 …

Donald Trump signed an executive order creating new sanctions for people and companies found to be interfering in U.S. elections — though it's unlikely to satisfy demands for mandatory punishment of adversaries like Russia. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/09/12/trump-sanctions-election-interference-782457 …

If we are going to actually deter Russia and others from interfering in our elections in the future, we need to spell out strong, clear consequences, without ambiguity.

In order to deter foreign interference in future elections, we must make it clear to Russia and other adversaries that interference is unacceptable, and will have painful consequences.

Unfortunately, President Trump demonstrated in Helsinki and elsewhere that he simply cannot be counted upon to stand up to Putin when it matters.

While the Administration has yet to share the full text, an executive order that inevitably leaves the President broad discretion to decide whether to impose tough sanctions against those who attack our democracy is insufficient.

Trump‘s trying to look tough on election interfere bc he plans to challenge the Nov midterm election results; he knows Dems will win the House (and possibly the Senate), & he wants to blame Rs’ losses on election meddling (even tho he’s denied it played any part in his own win).

Democrats are a bigger threat to free & fair elections than.foriegn powers. Just look how they colluded with the FBI,CIA & DOJ to spy on DJT & then to set up a special counsel investigation to search for a nonexistent Russian connection to Pres. Trump.

They tried, without success. President Obama knew about their actions & chose to ignore it. I don’t know why, it may be because of his meddling in Israeli elections trying to oust Netanyahu. Maybe that is what many countries do.

Every one of our intelligence agencies, @FBI, @CIA, @TheJusticeDept, and our foreign intelligence partners, ALL confirm that Russia ATTACKED our republic by way of #ActiveMeasures. Trump's Nat Sec Advisor + 3 aides pled guilty. His campaign manager found guilty. What do you need?

The three that you refer to were short term aides, convicted of lying or financial crimes years before Trumps campaign. Nothing to do with Russia. Flynn lied to Pence & was fired. Don’t see Russian Collusion connection & none has been charged, It is a fantasy

Senator, what about VoterIDs to secure our elections? Can you get behind this ‘commonsense’ solution? Isn’t preventing illegal votes a way of ‘securing’ our elections? Maybe you and Kaine could co-sponsor a bill!

People don't have ID for a variety of reasons, many elderly people do not have driver's licenses for example. I don't see voter fraud happening on any sort of wide scale problem that it's worse than voter suppression which is happening a lot more frequently.

Based on so many studies out there I’m not sure anyone knows how much voter fraud or suppression occurs. I do know that CA has a policy of giving drivers licenses to non-citizens and they have been caught registering many of them to vote. That could be millions!

"The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is a non-profit tax exempt organization in the United States that seeks to reduce both legal and illegal immigration". This is an anti-immigration organization. Not a credible source for illegal voting information.
