I’ve worked for years in the Senate to reduce duplicative and wasteful spending, and make government more efficient. If President Trump seriously wants to make that a priority, then I’d be happy to work with the White House on that effort.

But let’s be honest: the President and his party, which controls both houses of Congress, have had every chance over the last 18 months to get serious about tackling our fiscal challenges.

Instead, the President ballooned the deficit by trillions of dollars with a tax giveaway primarily benefitting big business and the wealthiest Americans.

I can think of nothing more hypocritical or disingenuous than to turn around and throw hardworking federal employees under the bus on the pretext of fiscal responsibility.

Congress can and must stand up to the President and reject this assault on our federal workers by passing the 1.9 percent pay raise that the Senate approved on August 1.

@JakeTapper pointed out the zeroing out of the locality bump seems to be to punish DC & NY public servants particularly. -
Most Civilian Fed Workers w/families are working O-T to the tune of 24 hours a week in addition to reg 55 hrs due to to employee shortages & offices closing & taking 2nd jobs to make ends meet -- & have no idea their TAXES are going to go through roof due the Tax Reform bill.

-
Hampton Roads was in line for locality pay, and firefighters on the naval bases are working crazy amounts of overtime due to staff shortages so it's punishing more than blue areas.
-
Plus I'm getting locality pay for the Hampton Roads so get your facts straight.

Really? Are you a civilian federal worker?https://m.govexec.com/pay-benefits/2018/07/thousands-feds-would-get-raises-under-opms-locality-pay-proposal/149511/ …

When Trump signed the GOP tax scam, benefitting corporations and billionaires, he certainly wasn't concerned one wit about fiscal responsibility or the ballooning deficit.

First he came for the FBI, and other federal employees said nothing. Now he's coming for ALL federal employees.

Thank you, Senator. Stripping locality pay is especially egregious too.
-
He’s trying to get rid of the federal employees and FBI agents in NY and DC who really need the locality differential to be able to keep up.

To all of the Federal workers who voted for Trump here is a huge FU back to those workers. Maybe next time those Federal workers will think before they vote against their self interests. This will be the third no pay increase in ten years. Enjoy paying more for FEHB & inflation.
