Here's a question: Do you think it makes sense that as the technology we develop—that is paid for by taxes even—becomes more advanced, that as a result people should work *harder* to achieve what used to be achievable with fewer skills and less education?https://medium.com/basic-income/its-time-for-technology-to-serve-all-humankind-with-unconditional-basic-income-e46329764d28 …

Because it seems to me that as technology enables us to do more with less thanks to ever increasing productivity that everyone should have more time and greater freedom to choose what they do with it, not less time and less freedom. Technology should make life easier, not harder.

I highly recommend reading
@davidgraeber's Bullshit Jobs: A Theory. The question why we aren't already working 15 hours per week is a good question with profound implications.

Universal basic income speaks precisely to your concerns. Policy initiatives are underway.
#BasicIncome Get with@scottsantens — you two have great things to talk about. -
Read the novel “Player Piano” by Kurt Vonnegut written in the early 50’s. He predicted a two tier system of engineers running factories fully automated and everyone else living on make work jobs funded by the government.

Thanks, and will do—perfect summer reading.

Will you train your robot to be a u.s senator? Maybe he/she would march in line with the rest of the democrats. No brain required...

"Retraining" is an easy-sounding solution to automation-caused job disruption. The financial benefits of automation-based productivity only flow in one direction: toward the stockholders, re-distributive govt policies (e.g. UBI) are necessary

Mark, simple question: What good will it do to learn "new skills" when programmers will be also teaching machines the same "new skills", taking away any comparative skill advantage the human may have?

How about looking at the present, for now? We have a lying, racist, and likely traitorous President and I’m not seeing any of our elected officials doing anything about it.

I saw you at the
