Not content w/ one humiliating loss in the UNSC, Pompeo is going for another. Trying to unilaterally snapback UN sanctions will have no impact on Iran (unless it unwisely pulls out of the JCPOA), but will undermine the power of other UN sanctions. My take:

“I don't think it will be a major factor in Biden's decision, but it gives him more reason to have a clean deal with Iran to resume commitment to the JCPOA if Iran resumed its commitment, and not to make additional demands on Iran.”

Except that the US does know how to run elections. Now is the time for all our other leaders to demonstrate that in a democracy, the voters and the law prevail. The world could use such a message; Americans could use it still more.

And, of course, I can’t help but think of the 47 Ronin. (As of Jan. 21, there will dozens of masterless swordsmen in Washington.)
