No former President or VP should rely on - nor should public accept - mere statement from spokesperson that all classified records were turned over when term ended given inadvertent mishandling is just that, i.e., they don't know they have them. They should all conduct searches

A great cover & story. JFK helps protect Superman's identity. This issue had cover date of Feb 1964 but they are available on the stands three months earlier, which meant just as JFK was tragically assassinated.

If these other former Presidents & VPs don't affirmatively search all storage boxes in their homes & offices, any statements by spokespersons that they have previously "complied" with the law are worthless. should absolutely make the request.

Pence said same thing beforehand. No doubt Biden would have if asked too. If these other former VPs & Presidents don't say they affirmatively searched all storage boxes in their homes & offices, these statements by spokespersons are worthless.

I've been representing US intelligence officers for 30 years & can attest to how difficult it is to handle classified cases against Govt. The UK system is even worse due to Official Secrets Act. There needs to be stronger #whistleblower protection in both countries.

In many ways, new Pence disclosure may serve to neutralize negative impact Biden snafu was likely to have on potential Trump indictment. Both Pence & Biden handled situation properly. Trump's case is 180 degrees different from them both due to obstruction, lying & concealment.

Protecting national security should always be non-partisan. But too many politicians live in glass houses attacking their ideological enemies. We saw that w/former VP Pence in aftermath of Biden disclosures & now we see that stones break his windows too. washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/

Hey , what are your thoughts on Pence? Should his residence be searched by FBI?
Quote Tweet
Told ya. Now former VP Pence should allow @FBI to voluntarily search his offices & residence for additional classified docs. So should every living former President & Vice President. Because they all likely have some. But all different from Trump. cnn.com/2023/01/24/pol

Of course, President Biden - as sitting President - could properly & legally store classified docs at his residence if proper steps taken, which is why these embarrassing mishaps are so unfortunate.

An excellent comparison of the Gonzales and Biden cases by @NormEisen @rgoodlaw and @AWeissmann_ Both cases involved inadvertent removal of classified information in limited quantities, some handwritten notes and in Biden's case a self report. justsecurity.org/84843/could-bi

Failing to fully scrutinize the justices “just completely undermines the court’s credibility,” said Mark S. Zaid, a lawyer who often handles government investigations. “It sends a message of superiority that does not exist under the eyes of the law.”

Absolute credibility of Supreme Court is on the line w/this leak. That the Justices (and family members) were not investigated or asked to execute sworn affidavits undermines the integrity of the leak investigation & will forever taint the failure to reach conclusions.

Occam's Razor: eliminate all unlikely answers to identify the likely one. After extensive investigation being conducted w/no result based on low preponderance of evidence, who was not interviewed? The Justices. What does that tell you?
Quote Tweet
Having read investigative findings, I am completely struck by fact does not appear Justices (or their families) were interviewed, much less investigated. Since bare min "preponderance of evidence" was standard that could not be met w/staff, who else does that leave as leaker? twitter.com/nytimes/status…
