According to the Taos News: Stagg said members of the mountain's ski patrol team had detonated explosives in the area of Kachina Peak early Thursday morning in an effort to reduce the risk of avalanche.

Bomb holes were evident two days ago prior to opening are still visible around avalanche crown. Deep, early season facets combined with continuous wind deposits and delayed skier compaction likely contributed to this slide. Regardless, 100% mitigation is nearly impossible.pic.twitter.com/6F5vnEOfsO
