How do you manage when you are a mother and a fisheries observer during weeks in a row at sea, on fishing boats, in order to collect crucial data for the conservation of the fishery resources of your country? This is the amazing story of Rachael, from PNG.https://youtu.be/zTCSB1BmQ8U

“The Fisheries Bill will also ensure... Fisheries are managed in a sustainable way - balancing social, economic, and employment benefits while preventing the over exploitation of fish stocks.” We live in hope.https://www.gov.uk/government/news/sustainable-fisheries-enshrined-in-law-as-uk-leaves-the-eu …

If I had a dollar for every time someone was completely off the mark like this when it came to fisheries... Not to mention the thinly veiled racism. https://thefishingpaper.pdftomobile.nz/the-fishing-paper/january-2020-issue-172/fishing-news/stick-your-oar-in?fbclid=IwAR3EGLsXbbhaplcb4W1y9eXA-34UYemeFExg6Tw7oR8P9iEf_DSYMcgcNpw …pic.twitter.com/hg4QGB7eTC

This new packaging prototype looks like conventional plastic, but it’s actually made from fish waste and algae. If it escapes into the ocean, a fish could likely eat it safely.https://www.fastcompany.com/90430450/this-plastic-like-packaging-is-made-from-fish-skin-and-algae …

Agree again. The QMS (as any fisheries management strategy) is not perfect, but is perfectible in time with the right resources and political independence. The especies identified as in need of better management, confirm that the system overall is working, not the opposite

In general NZ prioritises stock assessments around commercial value/volume because industry is levied. It's essentially a user pays system. Recreational fishing is a free for all here and does little to contribute to research apart from tagging programmes for a few species.pic.twitter.com/Sl9MnOvBQ8

Wow! Here’s a picture. An enormous Pike that got caught on a branch (look at the gill). Perhaps chasing a duck or something, & came out the water, maybe when it was deeper. It died, then Blackbirds made a nest in its mouth (Found via Facebook. Source seems to be ‘Big Fish Media’)pic.twitter.com/WOfmwTjp5t
