That’s the most pathetic thing. Every time I’ve had to dig into their “work” I find the same thing. Sloppy, frankly laughably clumsy work, for an ideological goal. The clumsiness is kind of the point. The only way to come to their conclusions is to fuck up your analysis.

Yet every time you turn on the TV one of these assholes is on the News Hour, the 24 hr networks, late night opinion shows etc., and the emperor has no clothes. Their work is *laughable*. But there is a collective delusion if you have a dc office and a nice suit you must be real.

Need climate change denied? No problem, Manhattan will say the *real* denialists aee climate activists. Need covid denied? Don’t worry, same assholes are now public health experts. They are phony, incompetent, amoral scoundrels. https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/25/climate-science-deniers-downplaying-coronavirus-pandemic …

Receipts. Starts with the classic crank “denialism is just a way to smear people with holocaust denial!1!1” (it isn’t - it’s the rhetorical structure of phony argument) and in the next beat calls climate activists denialists. You can’t make this shit up!https://www.manhattan-institute.org/html/climate-change-activists-are-real-science-deniers-10240.html …

Yall remember the “cubic model”? You remember who came up with that laughable excel turd? Keven Hassett, of the *American Enterprise Institute* which hired him as an economist. In 2016. After he wrote the book Dow 36000. In 1999. Before the bubble burst.https://www.vox.com/2020/5/8/21250641/kevin-hassett-cubic-model-smoothing …

See what I mean yet? The people in these “think tanks” are laughable mediocrities that fail upwards, because the only people with enough hubris to “balance out” actual rigorous science to benefit the carbon producing industries are people too stupid or crooked to know better.

And thats the thing, these losers have to know this. If it weren’t subsidized by carbon production, no one would touch these creeps. Can you imagine showing your face in public ever again after the “cubic model”? Kevin can. He has no shame. A prerequisite for employment at AEI.

Let me just say, as someone who has gone through stats peer review - where they have a trained statistician independently evaluate your work in addition to 3-4 other scientific reviewers - none of this shit would have a snowballs chance in hell of surviving that kind of scrutiny.

This is what set me off by the way. The astroturf Manhattan Institute is diving feet first into the culture wars with their analysis of how critical race theory hurts Black people. Same garbage different day.https://twitter.com/deonteleologist/status/1381669915162124290?s=20 …

This is really fucking stupid. I’m not qualified to fully evaluate their methodology. But they make Black people read a paragraph from Ta-Nehisi Coates (‘CRT’ is just ‘antiracism I disagree with’) describing several state-sanctioned killings of Black people. What did they expect? https://twitter.com/epkaufm/status/1381580942008061955 …

If you’d like to participate in some peer review of the “product” of one of these crank zoos, please comment on this thread below. Please read their very sophisticated argument for why wokeness hurts black people and take a nice critical look at the data they have assembled.https://twitter.com/MarkHoofnagle/status/1381804602853621762 …

Extending from my rant about the BS that comes out of think tanks, I submit to #medtwitter and #sciencetwitter this astounding turd of confounding, absurd axes, bad stats, and cherry picking for peer review. Can yall find one or 100 flaws? https://www.manhattan-institute.org/social-construction-racism-united-states …
