Doctors need to wake up to the effects of disinfo real fast. Poor Dr. Jha here had to testify alongside HCQ cranks. But the prep for this isn’t just the facts, we need to be ready to expose the tactics and flaws of denialost arguments to counter their impact.https://twitter.com/ashishkjha/status/1329646432958156801 …

It’s an extraordinary story. Tl;dr basically to soothe the ego of the mad king our congress is investigating one of his early flights of fancy (not bleach at least) even though when he himself was sick *he didnt take HCQ*.

But we signal our loyalty by demonstrating what *lies* we will publicly spout. The truths are easy. Publicly declaring a lie is how you demonstrate you are a trusty soldier of trumpism.

We are not used to medicine being overly politicized but it does happen and we can take the lessons of those fields that have been politicized -like climate change - to heart. Let’s not relearn their hard won knowledge from scratch.

Start with Cook and Lewandowsky’s evidence based consensus document the Debunking Handbook (2020). Understand that beyond facts, you have to engage in active counterprogramming. https://www.climatechangecommunication.org/debunking-handbook-2020/ …

Jha lead with the truth (good) but you have to follow with counterprogramming against the lies. I would have pointed out the problems with anecdote, that *no one* can “see” clinical effects when the survival differences are slivers of a percent. That this is bias.

You can do it nonconfrontationally. You acknowledge their experience is real, but why such experiences are subject to bias and why RCTs uncover those biases.

        I’d start with the handbook. https://www.climatechangecommunication.org/debunking-handbook-2020/ …
