When has something been asserted as a conspiracy theory - that is, a theory in which an absence of empirical evidence is explained away using allegation of conspiracy - subsequently turned out correct *after* the CT was posited. More simply, what is their pretest probability?

Answers not accepted will be examples of criminal conspiracy which are not the same thing. Criminal conspiracy has a fundamentally different meaning - more than one person planned to commit a crime. It is common, boring, and explained by empirical evidence.

Further answers not accepted will be malfeasance discovered by Church Committee, whistleblowers (MK Ultra etc.) Conspiracy theories don't get credit for predictive power after the fact of disclosure!

Finally, this is not a thread for posting pet conspiracy theories or claiming the earth being flat has already been proven, instablock will activate. Conspiracy theory is a malignant, odious habit that tends to slander good people and should be treated like public defecation.

I have to clarify again, the point isn't that we've learned that corporations, and govts, and criminals haven't done f'd up stuff. When did a conspiracy theory exist prior to the public revelation, that otherwise lacked empirical proof, and is there evidence of that happening?

You didn't read the criteria. These were not conspiracy theories, these are things discovered after the fact. Who was walking around shouting "the FBI is spying on John Lennon" without evidence, prior to it's discovery? No one. We found this out when they *told* us.
