I have been making the point for years that denialism is not just a esoteric intellectual problem - it’s an existential threat. When people disbelieve best available knowledge on climate, public health, vaccines, medicine etc., we are playing with fire.

And while the probability of catastrophes is low, the risks from low probability but catastrophic occurances are far outweighed by the minimal costs to avoid them. Which is cheaper, continuous pandemic monitoring/response or 1.5 trillion dollars? That was just answered.

And that itself was historically an absurd move. Capital infusion? For loss if confidence? Really? No one has cracked a book in this administration. A better move - 1.5 Trillion to cover lost pay for everyone affected by corona. Instills confidence. Doesn’t disappear instantly.
