So is this is what mansplaining feels like? Prasad’s big insight into debunking, “hey, what if by debunking you spread the message further?” Prasad thinks he’s discovered the backfire effect! What should we do in response? Maybe act like he’s never heard of p-hacking?https://twitter.com/Plenary_Session/status/1190418443557670915 …

I don’t know man, have you considered there’s a whole evidence-based handbook on preventing backfire effects? https://skepticalscience.com/docs/Debunking_Handbook.pdf …

Or maybe, just maybe, the people linking science of scicomm had heard of literally the most basic goddamn problem with countering disinfo? Ya think?

Here’s a big insight for Dr. Prasad. Did you know that sometimes people slice and dice their data looking for subgroups that have statistically-significant associations that may be spurious? Have you ever thought of that? I think I’ll name my discovery “subgroup analysis.”🙄💀

What we have seen here, sadly, is Prasad has Dunning-Krugered himself. He entered this week assuming he knew everything about countering disinfo, and instead of responding thoughtfully to evidence, has just doubled down on ignorance - classic confidence in incompetence.
