The remaining bad news is that "6 to 8" categories will be presented off air. That means the 3 shorts awards, and (my guess) editing, sound mixing, sound editing, and possibly makeup/hairstyling. That won't help what ails the show, and I hope the branches unite in protest. >
The problem-under-the-problem here remains: Decisions about what the Oscar show should be should not rest with those who fundamentally do not like or get the Oscars. This is especially true in the next few years, which could be an era of great and positive change for the awards.>
Nevertheless, the putting-on-ice of the popular film Oscar, which was a patronizing attempt to People's Choice-ify the awards in a year when the most popular film can and should compete for Best Picture, is great. So let's call today a win. Okay, now back to the general horror. x
P.S. (because there's always a P.S.): The Academy should think a little longer and harder than it has about Black Panther winning a pile of craft awards all of which are presented during commercial breaks. As Twitter is fond of saying: Not a good look, my dudes!

I agree. @TheAcademy messed up BIG time by announcing such a huge change without providing any guidelines for nominations or voting. They look so stupid but I was 100% behind this new category.
I think they have the right idea. The old structure for the awards is going to be outdated before too long & if they want to survive, they'll have to adjust. But, I think the surplus of awards is always going to hurt their former pre-eminence.
A huge failure. (And now Black Panther can't even receive the second-tier consolation prize for which it no doubt would have been favored. )
I'm probably too optimistic but I fully expect Black Panther to get a Best Picture nomination
