Arrest & caging of opposition US journalist @MaxBlumenthal reminds me (and others I know) of the worst of Russia. Except there, when oppo journalist Ivan Golunov was arrested, most big-name Russian journalists—including Putin-friendly—publicly supported Golunov.

Because journalists in Russia are much more aware that if they don't stand together in solidarity, they can be picked off individually any time the government of the day feels like it. Western journalists have been lulled into a false sense of security.

And stop using Russia as your yardstick. How about England and Assange. There were other journalists who have been imprisoned in the US and UK for their views. Look for the worst examples in your own backyard. It's staring you in the face.

#Assange is being persecuted. They are silent now when@MaxBlumenthal is arrested. Next is them, the mainstream media - only when they try to do real journalism, publish a real story. When was the last time they did it.. can't remember! -
