  2. As the Senate voted to acquit President Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstructing Congress, hundreds streamed onto the Capitol grounds. Many Americans were unhappy about the acquittal — and channeled their rage into protest. ICYMI, my latest:

  3. The rally is over here in . But demonstrators are still going: dancing and drumming and railing against the president and the Senate’s vote to acquit. Capitol Police are also here, watching from a distance.

  5. Sampling of signs here. People are angry. They interrupted speakers to call for a revolution and denounce Trump and GOP members of Congress. It’s one of hundreds of protests around the country tonight — but this one is on Congress’s doorstep.

This group staged a sit-in under the Capitol dome during the vote. You don’t see that every day, most arrest actions stick to Senate and House offices. They snuck in with a tour, doesn’t happen a lot either.

  7. Rep. here at the protest in quotes Maya Angelou’s famous saying, “when someone shows you who they are, believe them” as the crowd shouts out who they believe President Trump to be: “a fascist!” “a sociopath!” “a traitor to this country!”

  8. NOW: Chants of “out now” and “November is too late” as hundreds gather outside the US Capitol to express their rage and dismay at the Senate’s vote to acquit President Trump, following his impeachment. Some are holding signs that say, “Thank you Sen. Romney!”

  9. All 10 demonstrators arrested today have been released from jail, organizers tell me. They were charged with “crowding, obstructing or incommoding,” per Capitol Police. Per law, it is illegal to protest in any Capitol building.

  11. Feeling pretty good that my very presence in a government building tips other journalists off to the fact that a protest is about to go down. Special shoutout to the photographer who took one look at me today and said, “So they‘re getting arrested then, huh?”

The next hot issue on the D.C. ballot: Magic mushrooms? has interviews with the people who want psychedelic shrooms without fear of arrest and a Denver prosecutor who said legalization hasn't really been a big deal in her city

  14. I’m told the group who have been arrested will be taken down to jail, but likely released today. This is one of many protests scheduled in the hours around the Senate vote, including a later demonstration dubbed outside the Capitol following the vote.

  15. Police cleared the rotunda as they prepared to arrest the group. Everyone else on their tour — members of the same anti-Trump activist community — were escorted out.

Spectacle from start to finish. - Trump doesn't shake Pelosi's hand - Trump gives out a scholarship - Melania puts a medal on Rush Limbaugh - A soldier is reunited with his family - Pelosi rips up the speech

Seems like Pelosi may have been trying to replace Meme 1 -- Trump ignoring her outstretched hand -- with Meme 2 -- her ripping up his over his shoulder as he was still on the dais.

A protestor was removed from one of the galleries who shouted something during the president’s speech — many Democrats on the floor turned toward the gallery and applauded him as he was taken out of the chamber
