In the first six months after the release of Luigi's Mansion 3, a rare glitch could occur during the final battle in the Scarescraper mode where one of the small Boos would get stuck on the floor, squished, with its tongue out. That Boo could not be defeated through any means.
Addendum: there is one circumstance under which the Boo would go back to normal and allow the battle to be won, which is when one of the players would disconnect from the game. Thank you to the readers who pointed this out; the original source did not document this!
Several pieces of information regarding cut Hotel Mario content exist. I propose an Iggy's Cheese Hotel Theory that suggests that they may be all connected.
I have adopted a style for posts containing speculation that clearly separates the factual part of the content from my own extrapolation. I hope that even for those who do not necessarily agree with my conclusions, the information is notable enough by itself!
Super Mario Odyssey contains four central themes: Hat, Rabbits, Wedding, and Moon. Remarkably, in addition to synthesizing all four themes, the game touches on areas where a preexisting overlap between the themes can be found, filling out a diagram of thematic connections.
Regarding recent posts: I apologize that, in my excitement to cover newly released Mario information, I may stray too far into speculation such as theorizing on the consequences of a design choice. I will take additional care to clearly delineate the findings from my hypotheses.
I hope that the factual observations that serve as the basis for my posts are notable enough on their own! If this proves to be too distracting for my readers, I will change my approach to attempt no such extrapolations at all. Thank you very much for your patience.
Originally, the Rocky Wrench enemies started out as mole-turtle hybrids, before being retconned to be simply Monty Moles wearing goggles. The addition of a new shelled chipmunk enemy in Super Mario Bros. Wonder suggests that Nintendo may be going back to Rocky Wrench's roots.
It appears that Super Mario Bros. Wonder will feature a variety of unique expressions that can only be seen extremely briefly. For example, when a character touches a moving object, the character assumes a unique surprised expression for only a single frame.
In Super Mario RPG, Peach's castle has red roofs (left). However, in the Super Mario RPG remake, the castle has blue roofs with yellow flags (bottom). This change is not arbitrary, but is rather done to make the castle look like its low-poly render on the map screen (top right).
, there is one other place where the castle has blue roofs: the game's credits, as seen below! It appears that this was likely the earliest design of the castle, which the map's low-polygon version then referenced.
In Super Mario RPG, Valentina's Japanese name is "マルガリータ" (Margarita), referring to a cocktail often served with a lime slice. However, in her original artwork, she was holding a drink with a cherry in it. In the remake, her model was updated to correctly hold a margarita.
In Donkey Kong 64, if a Kong dies during a cutscene, gameplay will not resume when the cutscene ends. Instead, the camera will simply show the dead Kong's corpse and linger on it indefinitely.
Unused graphic found in the files of Mario Superstar Baseball, possibly used as a placeholder for the title screen during development. The image features crude sketches of Mario and Luigi and the text "ルイージの兄野球", which translates to "Luigi's Brother Baseball".
Follow-up to the previous post: after further analysis of the data, it appears that Tiny Bowser having code to join Starship Mario does not directly imply that he was intended to do so. However, if he was, the provided mock-up showcases what it would have looked like.
In the credits of Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bowser appears in the credits in a tiny form, presumably as a side effect of his defeat. This tiny Bowser has unused code to appear as a companion on Starship Mario, suggesting he was planned to join Mario on his travels in the postgame.
