I asked my non-SEO Facebook friends this question about featured snippets. The answers are quite interesting. Many of them said that they would not click the first box (the featured snippet) because they thought it was an ad. I've included some of their replies as well.pic.twitter.com/I9JSdLJ4wg

I tried really hard to word my question so that I wasn't asking whether it was an ad or not. I was amazed to see how many just assumed it was an ad and ignored it completely.

This is what I often do and I suspected many did as well. Again the answers will come with LOTS of testing. I also suspect there is no right answer across the board and varies depending on intent.

This is... concerning to say the least. imo FS's are supposed to be a user-centric SERP integration (aiming to satisfy queries) so I would have thought Google is analysing them like you have, and would try to make it clear that the result is not an ad
