    Absolutely agree! On this note, previously mentioned that Google noindexes UGC in their product forums until it gets healthy interaction. Once this happens, they'll lift the noindex. Ultimately this helps with quality control

    Example of how UGC can surface in Search. While sites with forums can have considerable quality issues, forums can still provide a lot of value to searchers if managed correctly. Gives sites the opportunity to surface in the 'Discussions' carousel – a feature that can appear.

    Q: a page on my site keeps disappearing from search, but reappears when i submit to indexing in webmaster tools. Why? A: the page is likely very close to, but still above the quality threshold below which Google doesn't index pages.

    To sum up - Google wants you to qualify any followed commercial links (affiliate, guest post, etc.) w rel=sponsored or you can end up with a manual action or algorithmic suppression. This applies to both publishers and recipients of links. I'll go back to being on vacation now.

    If you have been either a publisher or acquirer of guest post links take note! Google says they are good at nullifying links from guest posts & other sponsored links, but with this update they can cause a manual OR algorithmic action for the publisher or the recipient.

    I'm on vacation for the summer and it is killing me not to analyze a link related update. 😍 But I had to read the blog post. Here's what I learned about the link spam update: If links are commercial in nature, Google wants you to use rel=sponsored, ugc, etc.

    Google just announced what they call the "link spam update." Affects "links that involve payment, sponsorship, or are otherwise commercial in nature." Includes guest post links too. "More effective at identifying and nullifying link spam more broadly"
