I have been reporting on women immigrants being systematically raped & abused in detention facilities for over a DECADE-DO NOT BE SURPRISED BY THIS NEXT LEVEL OF ABUSE OF FORCED STERILIZATION. BE ANGRY some of us have been pointing this out yet no one seemed to take it seriously

Arizona has been flipped. This is HUGE. A decade ago it created the most hateful anti-immigrant law. And this created a new generation of organizers. On the street & for the ballot. And this is what it looks like. A decade of hard work on the ground with a vision of human rights.
Just a reminder. We should see the children/teens at the border for what they are. Desperate. Refugees. Fearful. They’re not a horde or a surge. Imagine them as your children-alone in the world. This is who they are. And I remind you. There are a few thousand. Not half a million

By law, the VERY FIRST ppl excluded from the US were Asian/Chinese women in the 1880s. Then came The Chinese Exclusion Act. This country has hated Chinese/Asian ppl and specifically Asian women for well over a century. Talk abt this history of hate. Name it. See it.

It feels pretty lonely out here as a journalist who is Mexican born, immigrant, woman, American citizen. To see so many of my fellow journalists, women, offended by jokes. But seemingly not offended by the lies and grotesque attitude of this WH towards reporters & our profession
You know what is truly extraordinary? That the protests didn’t die down after the violence. More people came out instead of less. More and more and more people who understood that they wld never have enuf tear gas for the multitudes. The ppl won.

I ask this question w/love to my fellow journalists who are white men or women. Have you ever had a situation where your mother is afraid to walk outside bc of her race/ethnicity? This is what it feels like to be a Latina immigrant journalist in the United States today.
I’m just saying. Presidential assassinations are not common. What just happened in Haiti is grave. All of the Haitian workers near me here are worried abt home. I’m hearing their voices of concern rn.
Our Latino/Latina bodies appear to mean nothing to this president. Whether we are in cages. Whether we are in freezers. Whether we have died.A negation of our existence. I won’t let this happen and be silent. That is my role as an American journalist.

I have gotten frantic texts from ppl that they are spotting ICE in their NYC buildings knocking on doors. They are terrified. This is happening TODAY. RIGHT NOW. People being hunted down. And when you get down to it, the reason why? They were not born in this country. We I mean.
This president is lying everyday about immigrants and immigration policy. It is the job of journalists to call out the TRUTH and NOT to parrot lies. This is an URGENT CALL to my fellow American journalists. Do not repeat LIES.
