But as time went on, third parties weren't able to develop games for Switch at the quality they wanted, which is why support slowly tailed off. Nintendo's aim is to further future proof their next console, so we should expect greatly improved specs upon the current generation.
If Nintendo are looking at partnerships such as this it also tells us that they are wanting to create a console that is attractive to third parties in terms of the specs. This was Nintendo's intention with the Switch and it certainly worked for the first few years.
I'd say this tells us that Nintendo's next console is coming after Christmas 2023. I say this as they'll look to capitalise on this period as the last holiday to sell current hardware. The next console will have a similar launch period as the Switch did (2024 q1/2).

The Nintendo Switch "Pro" is real however it won't be releasing this year, we'll have to wait for 2022 for that. It also won't actually be named the "Pro".
