    We desperately need to start normalizing research careers outside of academia. So many painful conversations w/ mentors about missing out on “the dream job of academia” or “leaving research”. Why can’t I just use my training to improve government and help people?

    The rhetoric of "oh it's such a loss to academia" when someone decides to leave academia really irks me. Maybe we need to change the research culture so people aren't forced out in the first place?

    Really excellent thread - in particular on how talking about restrictions is actually keeping the focus where the Tories want the debate to be…

    If Covid surges become a seasonal issue on top of other NHS winter pressures then the debate needs to move from restrictions that were already a game of diminishing returns towards what state capacity building is needed to routinely handle an annual process.
