“Breaking Free” has been out for one week and I want to take a moment to thank everyone who made this past week special. Thank you for celebrating the book and especially promoting the book on social. (It’s a challenge to get love for a feminist ideas book, so I appreciate it.)

I love how the White Guy presidential campaign strategy is to play up being a “regular guy.” An Everyman. Meanwhile, every single female candidate has to prove she’s cured cancer but also to not take any credit for it.

How many writers have received emails from white men who say, “I’ve read your article”; “I disagree with it [for x, y, z reasons usually born from misreading]”; and “I am happy to discuss this with you.” Like, YOU’RE “happy to”? How benevolent of you to demand I give you my attn.

It’s very strange for people to claim that the language of “pregnant people” “erases” women. Aren’t women people? If yes, then they aren’t being “erased.” In fact, the transition to “pregnant people” is doing extremely important work: not just inclusion, but feminism.

The only reason I can think of why someone with a PhD who doesn’t want to pay her grad students $15/hr is that she went through grad school having rich mommy and daddy or a rich husband pay for everything

Do I have to say it again? Or, can we just begin taking misogyny seriously? How many women have to die each day in order for people to start caring and seeing patriarchy for what it is?

It’s always strange to me that death perverts people’s perspectives — like, you can’t rail against someone for their entire life and then pretend to not when that person dies. Death is not absolution; it doesn’t wipe the slate clean. It leaves the living with all Koch’s shit.

Meaning that, historically, women have been discriminated against & socially constructed as “baby making machines,” solely, as their purpose in life. “Pregnant people” helps break that attachment— isn’t that what feminists want? For women to be perceived as more than baby makers?

I can’t stop thinking about bell hooks, here — not only her enjoinder for us to destroy dualisms but her critique of a certain kind of (white) feminism in which the “feminist” bond is built & based in victimhood … this is exactly what these trans bigots are doing. Pathetic.

Exactly what I said: If a black man called for the death, say, of GW Bush, he'd have been thrown into Guantanamo.

I didn’t menstruate until I was 13, and then I stopped menstruating because I had an eating disorder, and, now peri menopausal, soon I will stop menstruating. So, what does that make me, ? Menstruation does not equal someone’s womanhood, or determine their gender.

And yet, perfection is demanded of women. America's deep misogyny means they voted for a racist rapist over a qualified woman.

Transphobes have some pretty dumb logic. You’re being “erased”? Because someone else exists? Well, if you’re really being “erased” then how the hell are you tweeting your dumb words?

This is white supremacy, and we cannot condone it. If you're an elected official or member of media, you can't sit on the sidelines as a neutral party as this continues to happen. Your silence is complicity in vile racism. #IStandWithIlhan

Follow the “traditional family structure,” says no-wife, no-kid, closet gay Lindsay Graham.
Quote
Today, Lindsay Graham told women there's a place for them in America if they embrace their religion and follow "traditional family structure". Are y'all tired of this nonsense? All women are valid. All families are valid. Make calls for @harrisonjaime: bit.ly/2HRwIDK

I saw a number of tweets about Stacy Abrams petitioning Dem bigwigs for the Veep spot like it was a bad thing, like it was unethical for a black woman to stand up and speak on her own behalf (when who knows how many power players in the Dem Party would).

74 days. Just for an arrest, not even a conviction. If this doesn’t convince you that the US is fundamentally, systemically, and at its very core, racist, I’m not sure how to help you WAKE THE FUCK UP.

Exactly. Having a sense of style, wanting to look the way one feels on the inside and intentionally designing one’s self and one’s aesthetics, transcends economic status. This criticism of AOC is sexist, racist and classist.

I met Joe Biden last year. He was kind, thoughtful, and engaged. When I brought up trans rights, he got very serious. He leaned in and with a finger pointed at my heart, said: “I am in this fight with you. Trans rights are human rights.” I believe him. #Biden2020

Oh hell no. TERF lesbians are the worst lesbians. How idiotic do you have to be, how ignorant of our history, to espouse the argument once used AGAINST you? That lesbians are not women. REMEMBER THAT ONE?

It could also be that she was being pushed out of her job and her extension was a passive-aggressive maneuver — this happens all the time to women. Like me. So, the legal documentation could be different from the reality of the situation.

It is the fallacy of equality, especially when wielded by bigots, that any two women (cis or trans) have the same bodies, the same hormone levels, the same anything. To conduct such invasive medical practices on women is inhumane. Bravo to Rapinoe & BJK et al for speaking up.

Mitt Romney is 71, has two failed presidential campaigns, has a history of flip-flopping on a wide variety of issues, had an embarrassing episode of pandering to Trump only for it to backfire, and yet... no one in political media is saying he needs to be quiet.
