Enjoyed this vignette of @elonmusk’s work ethic at SpaceX. NASA’s chief engineer: “I guarantee you this guy is not going to fail”pic.twitter.com/G2TiwFbmOu

Having just read “Bad Blood,” I was struck by the contrast here with Elon’s candid replies, until of course Carmack stumps him 😂pic.twitter.com/egmlypUUer

Incentives matter: NASA’s milestone-based payments favored a scrappy startup like SpaceX. Classic low-end disruption of the incumbent contractors:pic.twitter.com/2fBVHQOEvA

In 1920, the @nytimes made fun of Robert Goddard’s idea that rockets could fly in space. Nearly 50 years later, after he was vindicated, it issued an apology:pic.twitter.com/p7h7KwqW5C

I love stories of scrappy companies doing more with less. There were stories about SpaceX’s ingenuity in @valleyhack’s excellent book, and here’s @wapodavenport with more:pic.twitter.com/no9TTpsbfk

Basically, cost-plus contracts doled out by the government made the industry extremely inefficient. More ingenuity by @elonmusk and team at SpaceX:pic.twitter.com/53trQ6WyqE

In a recent podcast, @tylercowen mused that asteroid mining might not be very valuable. But here’s one estimate: $50 billion worth of platinum in a small asteroidpic.twitter.com/mJUq7xx9iR

Bezos has noted that we *need* to go to space because in ~200 years we’ll run out of growth on earth (compounding energy usage by just a few %/yr). This is closely related to the excellent @TRVLRSseries—stasis=disasterpic.twitter.com/JvAkUQeLwx

.@SpaceX should take a page from the @stripepress playbook and create a series of space-related books, curated sci-fi and educational tomes to reignite the public’s passion for space exploration

In 2009, the gov’t scrapped NASA’s heavy-lift booster program because it would take 12 years and $36 billion. SpaceX did it in 1/2 the time and 1/30th the cost.
