What if he is the last of his kind? Like he wakes up from a long deep sleep, and his home is now ancient ruins. "Man" is now roaming the world. He could be afraid of them, because the people were afraid of him first. Could have an evil ruler that wants him, and wants to use him

As a weapon. But the golem is sweet and peaceful. Maybe a peasant helps him go on journey to find what happened to the other golems and they go on an adventure to find a lost hidden civ of them? Just off the top of my head
