That was one of my favourites as a child! iirc it was a joint effort by American/French/Japanese studios and Ghibli did the opening sequences with the train
-
Ok. That would make sense. I often thought, I'm only used to such animations from animes. Especially when I saw the train sequence. Also some water- or explosion animations look a lot like from ghibli. Thanks for the information!!

I watched it as a kid and I didn´t know there were comics of it.
-
Ah nice! Yeah the movie is based on the amazing comics by Winsor McCay. The comics are from 1905-1914. Here are 2 examples of them. Usually a one page story, because it was printed in newspapers back then. The comic style is amazing. Especially for that time.pic.twitter.com/oQSH0or1vj

I grew up with this movie and I love it so much. Definitely a must watch. I’m in my 30s so I had it on VHS
-
Awesome. Why I didn't know, it existed. I only know and played a game for nintendos NES.

I saw the movie as a kid and rewatched it some months ago! I remember back then the movie was so weird and even kinda scary sometimes haha! I loved it though. It always sticked with me for some reason..
-
It is indeed scary sometimes. My daughter didn't really like the nightmare king. But overall a great movie, hard to compare with other animated movies.
