) Is it a hard or easy to carve that kind of wood? Would love to give it a try as well at some point.

Thanks! It's both easier and harder than it seems. Basswood is light and easy to carve, but you still need a hand saw or some chisels to remove the bigger parts as it would take an infinite time if you only used your knife! :)

Is the 'thinking in reverse' easy for ya? Since it's a subtractive medium, i'd guess you spend a bunch more time before even carving, to figure out where the shapes will go and how?
