Damn... "thanks a bunch" = a sarcastic/ironic version of saying thank you. 
Oh boy, and I often used it to thanks people here on twitter for their comments.

Dude same!! Even "thanks a lot" can sounds super sarcastic, why is English like that
this is why I always use lots of exclamation marks and emojis
yeah it´s crazy. But it´s the same in german. Often related to context. But you can´t be sure 100%
