"Mookie has run off 4 consecutive seasons as at least a 6.4-win player. You know the last Dodger who had 4 seasons as at least a 6.4-win player?...Duke Snider!" Reactions to the Mookie deal from me & our whole team

Earlier today, LHP James Paxton underwent a microscopic lumbar discectomy with removal of a peridiscal cyst. The surgery was performed by Dr. Andrew Dossett in Dallas, Texas. His approximate timeline to return to Major League action is 3-4 months.

  6. Standing by for the press release that says the Red Sox are lowering prices to tickets, parking and beer now that they don’t have to pay Mookie Betts.

  12. It’s been great to see a bunch of baseball teams behaving like they want to win. It’s terrific for the sport. It’s been awful to see the Red Sox spend the offseason dangling a franchise player because of money. It’s terrible for the sport.

  14. It’s hard to improve on a 103-win team. But the Yankees signed Gerrit Cole. It’s hard to improve on a 106-win team. But the Dodgers traded for Mookie Betts. The Red Sox got under the salary cap.

Through patience, discipline and creativity, Andrew Friedman just added Mookie Betts (and David Price, one of the best pitchers of his generation) onto a roster that won 106 games last year. The Dodgers have ended this winter with a roar.

  19. Dodgers, without a title since ‘88, needed to shake it up after a brutal early exit. Twins without a title since ‘91, needed to better pitching after running into Yankees again. The Red Sox? Salary cap.

At Winter Weekend, Martinez on why he opted into his 2020 contract w/ Boston: "It’s a competitive team. I want to win. I want to win championships. There’s no guarantee that if I do opt out I’m going on a competitive team" Losing Betts/Price certainly makes them less competitive
