Knowledge, notes and data are such catchall terms that the debate is not going make progress any time soon ๐
Meanwhile educated users make progress ๐คฃ
In sports coaching the conceptualization of what coaching is, is at a stand still.
There is too much encompassed in the term.
Instead it is an umbrella term to start a conversation...
I know nothing on sports coaching so I take your words.
We have the same with "Learning", it's an umbrella word for many things.
Knowledge, Information and Data have "hazy" definitions as
Weโre not going to solve the ambiguities of language anytime soon ๐
The meaning is always baked into the immediate context and doesnโt exist as some abstract idea outside of it. Go full Wittgenstein:
It's a struggle I admit, but no. We can't go full Wittgenstein on everything, every day. It keeps the door open too wide for charlatans.
Every field consolidates its domain language to make progress. It eases communication.
but basically this conversation is based on a misunderstanding about what meaning is and how it is used in a casual conversation, in a technical conversation and domain experts. And even Wittgenstein has changed his ideas on language fundamentally during his lifetime.
What Maggie shared is a movie, not an actual record.
In French, we call that "Noyer le poison", drown the fish.
I'm just staying at the level of the movie of using animals metaphors ๐คฃ
Take any claim and refute it by finding an even more abstract claim showing it's useless
Itโs twitter. The only reasonable philosophical debates we can have here involve shitposting, misinterpretation, and talking past one another. ๐
Drowning the fish is the only correct response to trying to solve the meaning of language in a 280ch thread.
I wouldn't use such strong language here but yes twitter is inviting predisposed directions for conversations. it's basically just a tuner for anything on the ultimate megaphone.
There are forums and mediums where we could all dig into the assumptions weโre bringing to the table, establish a canon of shared literature, define a set of problems, and engage in nuanced debate about the meaning of words.
But this ainโt it. Here to play and talk nonsense
I paid a liberal arts university an enormous sum of money to give me a social context to discuss and unpack Wittgensteinโs nonsense
Iโve also found it with small, in-person discussion groups (with well read folks)
Perhaps there are cozy web chats, but bet they have to stay small
I hope it's not me and my tweets that give you this impression of Twitter ๐ฌ
I do my best to voice my opinions and critics in a civil way.
If I failed, Please accept my apologies.
