The floor for new โ€œnote-taking appsโ€ now includes bi-directional links, local data/self-hosted, complex block types, transclusions, advanced queries, graph viz, spaced repetition systems, multiplayer, and a slice of cake. Some think weโ€™re in hell. Seems pretty great to me ๐Ÿ˜Ž

For most people, this is mostly crap they don't need, and more distraction/wanking than value.

I am the enemy of note-taking/knowledge management systems in general, I believe that they stunt creativity, serve as a convenient disguise for anxiety, and just generally waste a lot of fucking time Here is a post detailing my claims sashachapin.substack.com/p/notes-agains

The risk of wanking is real ๐Ÿ™ƒ Some features of the current hype are more glitz than substance, but a handful of these (bidi links, transclu., queries) have transformed the way I understand and synthesise ideas. N=1. But I imagine your feel similarly about your wiki?

I have a quirky theory: if we get people to LARP serious knowledge work & research, mimicking the skills of people who do โ€œrealโ€ knowledge work & research, they might accidentally start doing legitimately helpful research for niche non-academic-industrial-complex communities ๐Ÿฅธ
