The whole special was so good but that opening moment with the disco ball might still be my favorite part. Such perfect expectation-switching and tone-setting right off the bat

Ha, yes! That was extra magical. I know squat about lighting design and direction but it was obvious he was doing some absurdly creative work there. Also using his phone as a moving light during the ‘Turning 30’ song was wild.
