Anyone have a method for capturing metadata for academic papers quickly? Iβm on the website, press a couple keys, and then author, citation, keywords, URL, etc. are all copied to my keyboard in my desired format?

You can add metadata to Roam with Zotero. github.com/melat0nin/zote
Or Zotero has its own export that you can use. These wouldn't be as quick as what you described, but there is a web clipper.
The following media includes potentially sensitive content. Change settings

So essentially save to Zotero to capture metadata without manually copy-pasting, then use that script to export into Roam format?
Still faster than what Iβm currently doing.

Zotero is open source so ideally it should be possible to extract this specific functionality and avoid the need for all of Zotero. However, I remember looking at the code for this purpose a while back, and it seemed very confusing and convoluted :(

I just use the Zotero chrome plugin on the article page to capture the data, switch to Zotero, use their native shortcuts to copy the citation to the clipboard, and paste to Roam.
Takes a few steps but I've never found it a huge blocker.
