This is beautiful and a great explainer, it’ll be a go-to to share with people for sure. As I’ve started embracing evergreen notes more, I’ve realized the massive importance of note titles as APIs. I would love a visualization on that as well!

Ah you’re in luck - there’s a fourth illustration that wouldn’t fit on the original tweet but is on the garden post. I love the API comparison too, but changed the wording slightly to make it legible to non-programmer minds :)

1/ Glad it helped the ideas snap into place! For "atomicity," the affordances of

@RoamResearch

helped. The systems organises everything into reusable bullet points, so any paragraph can be dropped into multiple places. You write them in a way that make sense across contexts.

2/ For API-ness, think of note titles as phrases you would naturally use in writing. Personally held claims, beliefs, and statements like "Metaphors are bound to a specific cultural context" or "Drawing three dimensional objects on a flat 2D surface is an optical illusion"
