Hand studies from some morning warmup sessions. Realised how handicapped I am at drawing hands earlier this year. Been on a bit of a mission to do 400 hand studies from animated films / master illustrators. Only at 150 so far... Really does help build up the visual library though

Nice ! Can you share your process? Which films and illustrators did you emulate?

This set is mostly from classic hand-drawn Disney films. Check animationscreencaps.com for refs.
Each film has a unique way of styling hands depending on the AD. These are from Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. But I like the stylisation in Mulan and Emperors New Groove too

Generally I set a 3-5 minute timer for each one depending on how complex the gesture is.
Some of these are also stylised adaptations from photo ref. Eg. You do a couple master copies, then apply that same stylisation technique to a photo ref and see if you can get them to feel the same. Thatβs really the golden skill Iβm after.
