New York City’s wealthiest neighborhoods lost between a third and half their population since the pandemic hit. The city’s budget is overwhelmingly dependent on the 5% of New York’s wealthiest who left the city, and the danger is that many will stay away.http://bit.ly/2Za3KUc

Obviously the solution is to raise taxes on the wealthy that were suckers enough to stay. 🤔

Catching money from those you can’t simply use withholding on has always been a bit of an exercise

The first thing NYC should do to confront it's looming financial crisis is remove all the politically connected freeloaders from the spending plan. It should spin off responsibilities better handled by the free market, including education and transportation.

Cities need to plan for the rich fleeing and taking their money with em. Cause they were always going to optimize against your revenue and if that means leaving, out they go Might actually have to literally defund the police; like in Vallejo CA.

Once the riches pull up stakes for somewhere a helicopter ride away...why stay in NYC?

This is VERY good. The Democratic Party draws its power from these large wealthy urban tax bases. Republicans were honorable, but stupid to revive these centers in the 90s. They should let those who make the bed lie in them.
