Rainy day activity of sorting through a few foreign holiday photos. These are couple of my favourites from SE Bulgaria in July 2017. The shieldbug Carpocoris purpureipennis (?) and Queen of Spain Fritillary.

Wish luck today as they deliver our letter, signed by tens of thousands of people across the UK, including in over 1,700 in Nottinghamshire , asking the Prime Minister to Stop and Rethink

Thanks to a tip off from found the feeding signs of Xylocleptes bispinus at Greetwell Hollow in Lincoln. Also the weevil Sitona lineatus, leaf beetles Longitarsus dorsalis & Psylliodes chrysocephala and some Helophorus doing the backstroke in the puddles 🏊

The temptation of Black-throated Thrush in Grimsby was too much and a trip made with to see it today About 30 people gathered. Record shot made. That's now a nice duo with American Blackbird seen c.20 yrs ago. Purple Sandpiper later at Cleethorpes

The relatively warm and dry night (31/01/20) tempted me to put out moth lamp into garden. Just the one moth noted, a Hebrew Character, plus a couple of orange coloured Ichneumon wasps.

Came across a stonker of an Earthstar today whist surveying just over the Lincs border into Notts today. About 12cm in diameter, the largest one I've seen yet. 🍄

Best I could manage of the Grimsby Black-throated Thrush earlier - I only saw it high up in a tree against a grey sky so high iso/heavily lightened unfortunately. Only the second rare thrush sp. for Lincs - the other was also in Grimsby!

There'll be a few specialists on hand to help with identifications including Prof Mark Seaward for lichens , Dr David Sheppard for bees, ants, wasps and sawflies and Phil Porter for flies (and others!): test them with your tricky taxa!

As a follow-up to yesterday, I was very pleased to see a Merlin in hot pursuit of a small passerine whilst driving out of the village today, another new bird.

The Wallcreeper is a hard bird to see, but in winter it sometimes visits unexpected places. Like the city of Dinan in France, where it's relatively easy to see. shows you the way
