It's important when talking about what happened to the 215 Indigenous children to remember to use active terms instead of passive ones. No "children died at residential school." That's a rhetorical sleight of hand to avoid responsibility. Teachers and administrators killed them.

The January 6th attack was a warning. Today, Republicans block a bi-partisan investigation so they can defend the Big Lie & appease insurrectionists. And they've pushed 400+ anti-voter bills + new laws to subvert elections at the state level. We must defend our democracy. Now.

The votes against the January 6th commission are admissions of guilt. Only guilty persons hide from the truth.

Today, we reflect on the life and legacy of Harvey Milk. His leadership was instrumental in boosting the visibility of the gay community across the country. As Milk himself put it, "Rights are won only by those who make their voices heard."

The UNC decision to deny tenure to Nikole Hannah Jones is obscene. Tenure exists precisely to protect faculty from this kind of politicized decision-making. We need to compare the credentials of people who *did*get tenure this year if a Pulitzer & MacArthur winner did not.
