Today marks 5 years since dad died.
We are all a little sad, coping individually in our own ways.
But it’s both remarkable & delightful that dad is still so clearly loved by so many. Yes, he’s missed... but with so much of “him” in the work he made, he’s clearly still here. ❤️

Creative arts can be painful. I remember my dad being beaten up numerous times by critics, only to have those same people come back 5/10 years later & say that in retrospect the work was ahead of its time. Was even revolutionary!

I have 2 kids. 2 1/2 years & 9 months old respectively.
I’ll tell you something I never see anyone admit... they are exhausting, frustrating & life-destabilizing. They are rarely fun. Sure, smiles are great, hugs are lovely, but it’s HARD & not obviously a good choice in life.
I think the US and EU may need to consider placing sanctions directly on those British government officials working to protect Russian oligarchs from UK sanctions.
Lazarus was one of the last things dad created before he died. I know he was incredibly excited about it: working with new people in a new medium. His favorite place to be. As tired as he was, he was clearly loving it!

Just fancy paying my respects to the late and utterly great character actor Pete Postlethwaite. I miss being able to see him pop up in a movie and know he will make it even better.

Dad was a recovering addict. Was for most of my life & the prayer was powerful & important to him.
Generations tend to mirror one way or another & the importance of these words have grown on me as I identify & fight demons of my own.
I will never cease being fascinated by genetics and what gets passed down from one generation to the next. The physicality is the obvious layer, but how much else... dad and my grandad... and I can only assume, my future too.

Small personal note here. My dad had a terrible fear of flying. I remember sitting next to him, watching his knuckles turn white as he dug his fingers into the arms of his chair every take off, every landing. Turbulance. Yet he flew all over the world for work & pleasure.
