@ManMadeMoon Audiences are sophisticated enough to know "OK, the actor is talking to a tennis ball in this scene." Takes you out of the film

@Big_Eaters_Club Bad film making has audiences think that. Not the HUGE number of different tecniques used in the background to make a movie

@ManMadeMoon when used to enhance a movie, it's great. When it's used as a crutch in lieu of a good story, it's bad. Simple as that. -
@thecinematik Where does Avatar fall? ;)
-
@ManMadeMoon I loved Avatar's visuals. The story may be a rehash, but I think the sequels might surprise everyone. Cameron knows good story

@ashdigital@manmademoon They're speaking of the CGI they can see, which means it was often done badly. When it works it's imperceptible. -
@ashdigital@manmademoon When the viewer becomes aware of an effect, and is taken out of the experience, the effect failed.

@ManMadeMoon Spielberg proves this daily. Jurassic Park still looks amazing. WOTW puts it to terrifying effect. Execution, not the tool. -
@ellardent@ManMadeMoon Spielberg knows how to incorporate digital with physical. He's a master filmmaker.

@ManMadeMoon It overreached itself around the millennium. Thought it looked better than it did. The Star Wars prequels FX have aged HORRIBLY -
@ManMadeMoon I think they thought "we've got super-hi res textures and seamless digital matting so these FX are now PERFECT", and lost… -
@ManMadeMoon … sight of the importance of direction and editing. It just becomes swirly colours with no sense of solidity.

@ManMadeMoon I'm most impressed with subtle CGI, like the taxi cab windows in Irreversible the camera keeps pushing and pulling out of. -
@ManMadeMoon Or, you know, the guy's head getting crushed in with the fire extinguisher. So subtle.

@ManMadeMoon My issue is when CGI is used when a practical effect would’ve been much better. For instance, I HATE CGI blood/gore. -
@Aaron_Morgan@ManMadeMoon Thanks. I agree with that vid. -
@StarkyLuv73@ManMadeMoon I think it speaks to Duncan's point as well... it's all about the quality of craftsmanship. -
@Aaron_Morgan@ManMadeMoon I made that point as well. James Cameron is the absolute BEST at using CGI in a realistic way.
