I'll be voting today for the Uighur Human Rights Policy Act, to condemn and sanction Chinese officials responsible for the mass surveillance and internment of over 1 million Uighurs because of their faith and peaceful demands for human rights.
But I'm disappointed the Senate dropped a key part of the bill requiring a license for exports to China that could be used to commit human rights abuses. There's serious work being done by Democrats & Republicans on this issue, but also a lot of posturing. Next time you hear members of Congress boasting about being "tough on China," ask what they're willing to do about corporations trading their principles for profit there.
Just tried to contact both of your offices w/out success at 3:30 on a Wed afternoon & received an old message saying call back during regular business hours? Infuriating that essential politicians receiving lavish salaries & perks are still unavailable to constitutents.
